Postmodern

 What makes a film postmodern?

Postmodernist film is a classification for works that articulate the themes and ideas of postmodernism through the medium of cinema. Some of the goals of postmodernist film are to subvert the mainstream conventions of narrative structure and characterization, and to test the audience's suspension of disbelief

Useful sites exploring postmodern film include FilmTheory.org, PhilosophyinFilm

Concepts in Contexts

Below is the Concepts-in-Contexts schematic we reviewed in class. It can be a useful tool for helping you to clearly envision your Fascination Project (or any other text that requires a critical focus).

If you have already focused on your topic and it is NOT a concept but some specific film, text, or theory, try thinking of what concepts relate to it. Maybe that concept will become your focus. Alternatively, perhaps that concept will be the context for your exploration regarding the thing you're exploring.

Thanks, as always, to Professor Tim Ray for originally introducing me to this schematic!
